A Life Inside the Story

Gina L. Osborn is an author, speaker, former FBI executive, and U.S. Army counterintelligence veteran whose career placed her inside worlds most people encounter only through fiction.

From Cold War Europe to the FBI and the leadership of one of America’s largest public transportation systems, her work has unfolded at the intersection of secrecy, crisis, institutional power, and consequence. Today, those experiences shape both the stories she writes and the ideas she brings to the stage.

Gina’s career began in U.S. Army counterintelligence during the final years of the Cold War. Assigned to units in Belgium and Germany, she entered a world shaped by secrecy, divided loyalties, surveillance, and decisions that carried real consequences.

During six years as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, she worked alongside experienced investigators on significant espionage matters in the European theater. One defining early experience was participating in the investigation that led to the arrest of Albert Sombolay, whose espionage conviction resulted in a 34-year prison sentence.

Years later, that hidden world would help inspire her forthcoming novel, Women in the Corners.

Inside the FBI

After graduating from the FBI Academy in 1996, Gina was assigned to the Los Angeles Field Office. Her career would take her through organized crime, counterterrorism, cyber investigations, and executive leadership.

Following September 11, she served as the Counterterrorism Program Coordinator in Los Angeles and later supervised terrorism investigations spanning Asia, India, and Australia. She went on to lead inspections of FBI field offices and Headquarters divisions before overseeing the Bureau’s largest Cyber and Computer Forensics Program, leading major investigations such as the Sony Pictures cyberattack.

Across more than two decades with the FBI, Gina saw how institutions behave when the stakes are high, how decisions are made behind closed doors, and how individuals find the courage to act when the safest choice is silence.

Chief Safety and Security Officer

In 2022, Gina was recruited to serve as Chief Safety and Security Officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the nation’s second-largest public transportation agency.

She entered the role as the system emerged from the pandemic under extraordinary strain. Violent crime had escalated, frontline employees were increasingly fearful, and public confidence had deteriorated.

Drawing upon decades of experience in complex and high-pressure environments, Gina worked to restore direction, accountability, and mission focus across a public system under constant scrutiny. During her tenure, violent crime across LA Metro declined by approximately 34 percent.

The experience became the most public chapter of a career spent confronting institutional pressure, resistance, and consequence. It also deepened the ideas Gina now brings to audiences through her speaking work.

From Protecting Stories to Telling Them

For much of her career, Gina worked with stories that could not be told. They lived inside classified investigations, sensitive institutions, private acts of courage, and decisions made far from public view.

Today, she brings that understanding to fiction.

Her forthcoming Cold War espionage novel, Women in the Corners, draws upon the atmosphere of a world she once inhabited. It explores secrecy, ambition, loyalty, power, and three overlooked women on opposite sides of the Cold War who alter history.

Gina has also written for television, developing stories inspired by the institutional pressures and moral choices she witnessed throughout her career.
